Primary school Brinje has a long and rich tradition. Its beginnings date back to 30th  March1903 when regional authorities approved of opening the school by a decree. The very next year there was a formal opening of the school on 16th September yet only with one classroom in the building known as Koščakova hiša (now housing the town library). Since the settlement and the number of inhabitants grew there was constant need for a new school. Due to tragic years of World War I the school could only be built and opened years later – in 1928 with 136 students in 1930 and more than 200 in 1941.

Turbulent years of World War II damaged the building and numerous reforms in the following years took place. The extension of the school on Adamičeva cesta was built in 1959 since there were already more than 400 students attending the school. Finally, in 1971 a new school was built on Tovarniška cesta for students attending classes 5 to 8. In the previous year adapted education programme for children with special needs started (OŠPP) and in 1983 a section for handicapped children and their employment training programme.

In the 80s of the previous century the wish to open a new primary school in Grosuplje – the high number of students only allowed lessons in shifts – became a reality. In 1998 Primary School Brinje started its life as an independent primary school in Grosuplje and in the year 2000 a new modern and architecturally unique building on Ljubljanska cesta opened its doors.

Today Primary school Brinje is a modern state – owned education centre with a branch school Polica (Polica 200, Grosuplje) and primary school with a specially adapted programme of studies (Ljubljanska cesta 40 a) with 778 pupils.
